History of Saint Timothy Missionary Baptist Church

According to information provided by the late Sister Deanie Wills, Saint Timothy was established in either 1928 or 1929.  The foundation of the church began as a Sunday School at Edwards Chapel, after being inspired by Reverend McIntyre, a Methodist minister.  The church’s name was changed to St. Timothy in 1930 with Reverend Johnson playing a large part in the founding of the church. Sister Deanie Wills was the only living charter member at that time.

Throughout the mid 1940’s several ministers, including Reverends I. J. Jordan, King Dye, F. M. Moore, Polk Williams, Ira Goins, and Johnnie Allen were instrumental in building the spiritual foundation of the young church.  Rev. I. J. Jordan held the position of pastor until 1947.

In about 1947, Rev. H. A. DeVall was elected pastor. Under his leadership, the church came from its humble beginnings to its present structure.  Reverend DeVall was laid to rest in 1965.

In 1966 Reverend F. D. Perkins was elected pastor.  Under his leadership there were 23 new members added to the church roll and 15 candidates baptized. Several purchases were made to enhance the worship experience.  Reverend F. D. Perkins served as the pastor of Saint Timothy Missionary Baptist Church for 36 years from 1966 to 2002.  He passed away March 12, 2002.  In 1981 Reverend E. G. Colquitt became Associate Pastor. He was instrumental in some of the purchases for the church and growth of the youth department. Reverend E. G. Colquitt served as Associate Pastor for 26 years.

In September 2002, Reverend Lonnie McGhee was elected as pastor and installed in the position on October 6, 2002. Under Reverend McGhee’s leadership new microphones and a computer was purchased.  Seven new members were baptized in 2007 and new carpet and a church van were purchased. In2009 windows were upgraded in the sanctuary. In 2010 an air conditioner was put in the pastor’s study. In 2011, the church pews were renewed. In June 2013 Reverend McGhee resigned as pastor.

Our current pastor, Reverend Christopher Anderson, Sr., was elected December 30, 2013 and installed on February 2, 2014.  Under his leadership, several ministries have been reestablished.  A total of 31 new members have united with our church.  Under Pastor Anderson's leadership, an area totaling 2,007 square feet was remodeled.  It included the pastor's study being remodeled with the addition of a bathroom.  A classroom was added, and a computer room was added fully furnished with a new computer, printer, and all of the other necessary office supplies.  The kitchen was remodeled, and the fellowship hall was remodeled with new tables, new chairs, and a new heating and cooling system was installed.

Under Pastor Anderson's leadership, we presently have two associate ministers, Pastor Earl Colquitt and Minister Emmitt Odom, Jr. We presently have five deacons: Bros. Eddie Davis, Clinton Pittman, Fred Robinson, Robert Morgan, and Michael Hicks.  Saint Timothy has come a long way, and we have a long way to go.  We, the Saint Timothy Missionary Baptist Church, along with Pastor Anderson know that all things are possible with the help of the Lord.
